Who are you?
Hi, my name is David Philipp and I am a Sound Designer for the Total War franchise.
What’s it like to be a Sound Designer?
Being a sound designer means assembling and mixing sound to create new, exciting noises. It’s all about the noise really.
Why did you join CA?
I joined CA to work within a dedicated team of audio professionals with the shared goal to make our game sound as good as possible.
What does your average day look like?
This could be recording new assets or creating sound effects for one of our games or trailers etc. I try to play football with my co-workers in my lunch breaks which is a nice counterpart to beavering away in the studio. Then I do some more or less creative work in the afternoon.
What’s the best part of working at CA?
The working environment provided here at CA is just really good. You are surrounded by dedicated and very friendly professionals and also the tools we have available are of top notch quality.
What advice would you give to games professionals interested in working here?
I would probably tell them to work very hard and decide exactly in which field they want to do your work in. Audio people tend to call themselves composers, sound designers and foley artists on their portfolio websites which is normally a first indication of an over judgement of personal skills. Choose your field and make it your speciality.
