The Role

Creative Assembly is looking for an experienced Lead Graphics Programmer to join our talented team on our Total War Franchise. The project is based at our headquarters in Horsham, in the heart of West Sussex, however this role may be based either in Horsham, or at CA North in Newcastle, UK. This can be discussed upon application.

This is a rare opportunity to lead the team responsible for the Total War graphics engine used in the next Total War projects. Working with our experienced graphics team, you will have the opportunity to leverage the latest rendering techniques to push forward the look and feel of our games. You will work with the team, bring a creative mindset to challenge the limits of graphics programming, and guide the development of the Total War graphics engine.

Working with the leadership team you will be helping to define targets and deliverables, and ensure they are achieved. Communication is key to the success of this role, and you will be expected to clearly and confidently communicate issues that may arise and offer solutions to resolve them. You are expected to collaborate positively with all areas of our multidisciplinary teams.

For this role we are looking for an experienced person with fantastic technical and soft skills.

What you’ll be doing

On a day-to-day basis, you will:
  • Be responsible for hiring, leading and mentoring within your team
  • Contribute to the ongoing technical effort which will drive all Total War games moving forward
  • Collaborate with the Art and Design teams in solving problems and implementing new features.
What we are looking for
  • AAA games experience
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Ability to clearly communicate using a variety of methods to enable effective collaboration
  • Strong C++ programming skills
  • Experience with DirectX 12
  • Good understanding of current real-time rendering techniques used in video games
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Experience in designing and maintaining a large codebase
  • Experience in developing on Windows with Visual Studio.
Optional Extras
  • Experience designing / developing rendering engine for both PC and Console titles 
  • Experience designing / developing rendering engine for strategy games or similar
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Perforce and other source control experience
  • Passion for Games and Total War.
